5.5 Million
In Germany 5,5 million women aged older than 16 years have experienced sexual violence. Until our society can prevent all these cases, we must ensure adequate work-up, by offering a barrier-free and compassionate care after sexual violence.
90%
Drop out
According to EU estimates, only approximately 10% of women who have experienced sexual violence seek assistance.
Out of all women who do seek help, many turn to the emergency rooms across the country for evidence collection for a later prosecution. The clinicians they meet there often feel insecure about the process of evidence collection and fear being left alone in case of legal prosecution. After leaving the ER with sometimes no further support at hand, the woman feels uninformed and helpless.
Many of them drop out of the reporting and medical help process because it is confusing and and not woman-centered. Unresolved trauma after sexual violence leads to a significant burden on our healthcare system, estimates range around 1,15 billion €/year in Germany.
Clinicians complain about the process of being inconclusive and time-consuming. Growing discomfort about the workup after sexual violence leads to verifiably increased numbers of burnout amongst the medical staff.
Solution and Impact
We provide seamless guidance through this process for the women seeking help and the involved healthcare professionals. A digital companion will guide the women through the process in the ER and ensure she does not miss important checkups with her local gynecologist. An intuitive digital documentation form creates an easy-to-follow flow for clinicians when collecting evidence, providing background information along the way. This approach guarantees high quality evidence and peace of mind in case of following legal prosecution.
Our solution will empower every ER gynecologist to offer care following incidents of sexual violence.
This will take the burden off the potentially traumatized women to navigate through the complex system alone and provide high quality evidence to prosecution.
Who will benefit?
Women who experienced sexual violence, Health Care Professionals who want to offer care after sexual violence, prosecutors, insurance companies, society at large.
Our Vision and our Mission
Our solution centers around the women that experience sexual violence. We start right at the crucial point when women first seek help: Their trusted Health Care Professionals. By intervening early we will be able to make a meaningful change in care after sexual violence. Our expertise derives from the ER that since being a central hospital in Berlin has a extensive experience in handling women after sexual violence.
Our strength is that we combine firsthand clinical knowledge with expertise from consulting senior forensic and gynecological colleagues, public prosecutors, trauma specialists and support organizations. We will make a flawless and empathetic documentation making it accessible for all survivors and professionals. Thereby we will facilitate cooperation with law enforcement, offer reliable evidence to prosecutors, investors/insurers want for long term returns and our society can be proud of.
